My problem was inability to find an address in Chicago. Can I NOT locate street addresses with street numbers? No matter how I put it in (505 North Lake Shore Drive) nothing came up.

Our products do not have street addresses and sadly you cannot search for them. All of our products use data provided by the OpenStreetMap (a great project – check it out!). The OpenStreetMap project has very little to no street address database for cities (with a few exceptions – Toronto and Paris for instance). None of the “offline” map tools available for the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch will include a street address search.

Why is it that you can search http://www.openstreetmap.org/ at a street level ?
I bought the South African mapset and addresses I can find on the website e.g. Rivonia Road cannot be found on the application ? That makes no sense?

The search function has limited range – roughly 30km and even less if there are many (more than 18) similarly named objects close by. The search for “Rivonia Road” did succeed from “downtown” Pretoria as well as Sandton, but a search for “Rivonia” (no “Road”) didn’t succeed from Sandton because there are so many things named “Rivonia” in the area.
